The Domino Effect
Why do we let one unhealthy decision turn into another and another and yet another?
One of my sister’s famous words are “I will start my diet on Monday!” I have been listening to her say this for years. This statement is usually uttered after she shovels a few cookies in her mouth.
So let’s get real for a second….I am a healthy person and I want you to live your best healthiest life. However, I want you to enjoy and indulge every so often, so that you don’t feel deprived. I prescribe to the 90/10 rule. This means that you eat and drink clean healthy options 90% of the time and then indulge 10% of the time. This rule helps me to find balance in my quest to live a healthy happy balanced life. Now you can choose to be a little more lenient with yourself and follow an 80/20 rule if you desire.
Here is why I believe that this is a good way to live.
1. Many people who are too strict will eventually binge and fall off the wagon…..HARD!
2. Constantly depriving yourself makes you cranky and ain’t nobody got time for that. Haha!
3. Eating is social. People who are being too strict tend to avoid social settings that center around food and I don’t want you to become a skinny hermit!
4. A cheat meal can help you to reduce and overcome those pesky cravings.
So…..don’t let a bad choice cause you to throw in the towel and binge on sugar, fried foods, and garbage for the rest of the day. Recognize you ate an unhealthy option and make the rest of the day better. Go for a walk, be sure to go to the gym, eat a dinner with mostly veggies, or skip the that caramel macchiato after work.
Balance out bad choices with better ones. Don’t let them dictate the rest of your day or week. And don’t be my sister and wait until Monday to start your healthy lifestyle. PLEASE!
